Ministry Plan & Building Construction Timeline
August 2004 - September 2009
August 2004 A group of members was invited to meet with Church Extension representative Maribeth Westerfield to discuss the methods and steps necessary to plan for expansion. Step 1 was to develop a Ministry Plan for the next five years. A team was formed and work began in the fall on the program provided by Church Extension called Claiming God’s Vision. The team split into three groups; one to develop and conduct a survey of all church members and friends, a second to investigate the demographics of the area that we draw from and the third to inventory all of the then current programming.
April 2005 Phase 1 of Claiming God’s Vision is complete, Phase 2 begins. All church members are asked to join a Sharing Team and to meet 3 times over the summer to answer questions developed by the Ministry Planning Team to envision the future of our ministry.
December 2005 The final report of the Ministry Planning Team is presented and accepted by the congregation.
January 2006 The Ministry Planning Team becomes the Facilities Planning Team and with the guidance of Church Extension begins work on evaluating our existing facilities; determining the space needs for our Ministry Plan, the capacity needed for our new sanctuary and space needs for administration and program space.
Fall 2006 With our Facilities Plan complete, the Team interviews four architectural firms. Following the interviews the candidates were narrowed to two. The team spent November and December touring churches and commercial buildings, around central Missouri, that the architects had previously done.
January 2007 Architects Alliance of Jefferson City is awarded the design contract. The Facilities Planning report is turned over to them and preliminary design work begins.
February through April 2007 Rev Pohl, Dennis Barnes and Patsy Dalton conduct phone interviews with eight different capital fund raising consultants. After exhaustive research, Cargill Consultants is hired and the Forward in Faith Capital Campaign is born. The work of the campaign begins in May.
May 2007 The Architects Alliance presents the preliminary floor plan for the new building.
June through September 2007 Forward in Faith Capital Campaign activities and meetings are conducted all summer long culminating in First Fruits Sunday in September.
October 2007 Following the successful Capital Campaign, the Architects Alliance is authorized to begin design work.
January through May 2008 The financing of the new building is researched and church bonds were one of the options investigated. The study group concluded that mortgage bonds were the best alternative. The board approved the hiring of Share Financial Services to lead us through the process of selling bonds to our members and friends. The bond campaign is conducted in May 2008 and all $1,400,000 is subscribed and another $300,000 subscribed in December 2008 and the final $344,000 in September 2009.
June 2008 The Board approves the formation of the Building Construction Committee comprised of Dennis Barnes and Patsy Dalton co-chairs, David Dalton, Rocky Miller and Spencer Thomas. This group continues to work with the architect to develop the final design.
July and August 2008 Requests for Qualifications is sent out to12 area general contractors. The committee and architect review and compare all submissions and decide to interview four. Following the interviews Huebert Builders of Columbia MO is given a conditional approval to develop preliminary cost estimates.
August 2008 The old parsonage house is moved to a new location in Linn Creek.
August 2008 Breaking Holy Ground ceremony is held on the hottest day of the summer.
September 2008 After reviewing Huebert Builders cost estimate, the Building Committee decides to put the contract out for competitive bid to Huebert, Curtiss Manes Schulte and Versleus Construction. Curtiss Manes Schulte is awarded the contract.
