Changes coming for LOCC Youth

There are changes coming for our LOCC Youth and kids!  Our kids, kindergarten through 6th grade will still meet on Wednesday afternoons – after school to 5:30 p.m.  Our Chi-Rho and CYF groups will meet Sundays from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Our kids will experience “Banana Night” on Wednesday, September 7th from5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  This will be our kickoff/registration for our school year program.  Each participant is asked to wear something yellow.  All activities will have something to do with bananas or the color yellow.  It promised to be great fun!

Our youth will kick off their program with a road trip to Columbia following church on Sunday, August 28th.  We will travel to Lazer Lanes for Lazer tag, bowling, and other fun.

This change allows us to continue to serve our younger folk while allowing our older youth to meet in a time more conductive to their schedules.

This new year looks to be awesome!  Help is needed for both days!  If you can be involved, I would love to hear from you!

Peace!
Gary

when two or more are gathered

Next Wednesday we will experience our final Family Camp Night:  VBS Edition of the summer.  The purpose behind these “camp” nights was to include families into the experience.  It was also our hope that “family” would be interpreted as everyone in our church family.

It has been a major disappointment if we look at the numbers who have attended.  What hasn’t been a disappointment is the effort that has been put in to make it happen.  Good people making plans to help our church family learn more about God.  We have had volunteers provide awesome meals, our families have had great fun creating family crafts, leaders have taught our kids lessons right from the Bible (even adults), we have prayed together, sung songs; and have worshiped together to close our events.

In today’s climate, churches (and pastors) rarely admit something didn’t work.  If we look at the attendance of our first events, they would have been successful if we had a church membership of about 60 people.  We have more than that.  On that level, this new experiment was a “flop”.  On the other hand, it is hard to proclaim anything that calls God’s people together a flop.  We recall the scripture “when two or more are gathered”…

Personally, it has been one of the most fulfilling events I have experienced since I have been here.  After the initial disappointment about the number of people who showed up, I realized that those who were there were being church together, and allowed myself to be reminded that is all that matters.

What will we do next summer?  Who knows!  What I do know is that we tried something new.  If we look at numbers, it wasn’t a great success.  If we look at the people who planned, volunteered, and attended, we knocked it out of the park!  I’ll take knock it out of the park any day.

Thanks to all of those who have and will offer their time to plan these events, and for those who have attended.  You have taught me much, and I have had a blast!
